What is the Best Backup Software for Business?

I want to write this post to try to help IT Managers who are looking for a new backup software solution to protect their company’s data and applications.

Unfortunately, it would seem the facts on what actually are the ‘best backup software for business’ differ somewhat to the technology seen advertised on the internet from companies claiming to be ‘experts’ and the direct representation of end-user preference and the market. How can this be I ask my-self, when the global market leader in data centre backup and recovery software isn’t even listed in their top 10!? Alarm bells, I mean what does a company have to do to get a mention these days? I think we need to start unpicking this mystery by adding some much-needed context. The definition of the word business in relation to the IT market and specifically the backup software market is defined by the number of employees within the business. Gartner defines the upper-end midmarket as being 500 to 999 employees, and the large enterprise as being 1,000 employees or greater and these two categories are the basis of discussion today as those numbers would certainly cover 99% of Universities and NHS trusts in the UK, a good barometer?

So what makes me any different, why should what I say be any more or less accurate? Great question, it’s simple I’m going to be referencing statistics straight from the horse’s mouth, the real top 10 data centre backup and recovery software (more of a top 9) as published by the industry leading research and statistic company.

For those not familiar with the IT industry’s leading research and statistics company, Gartner – Gartner, Inc. (NYSE: IT) is the world’s leading research and advisory company. The company helps business leaders across all major functions in every industry and enterprise size with the objective insights they need to make the right decisions. These guys post a ‘magic quadrant’ each year detailing and positioning each vendor in the IT industry based on technical capability, vision, ability to execute and market share (the real indicators of a technologies footprint and customer opinion I feel).

Go Commvault .. officially the global market leader in data centre backup and recovery software.

Author: The Data Backup Guy

The 'About Me' section ... there's that gut wrenching feeling again... The pressure of having to write a paragraph about who I am strikes fear right through me, do people actually enjoy this bit? here goes, I'm here to translate my internal knowledge and experiences of being in the data backup industry for 10 years as a sales professional across to 'end users' (customers) so they can make informed opinions on potential data backup products (software and hardware) they may wish to purchase in their professional capacity. More? .. Ok, I will be interviewing many figure heads in the industry and documenting their ideas and opinions on where the industry is headed and 'what's new' in the world of data backup, the part I'm looking forward to most will be firing back what their competitors have to say about them and their products and seeing how they deal with it, definitely my sadistic side saying 'hi' there. We will also look to produce technology bake off's on as many competing products in the public, SMB, SME and Enterprise markets as possible. Wish us luck. P
